OCEAN FREIGHT
Ocean freight shipping is the method of transporting containerized cargo loaded onto vessels across the ocean. With over 90% of the world’s trade carried by ocean transportation, it plays a crucial role in global commerce. If you're looking to ship your freight internationally, ocean transport is often the most convenient and cost-effective option available. It ensures that goods are moved efficiently, connecting businesses and markets worldwide.
WHAT IS OCEAN FREIGHT?
As a general rule, shipments weighing more than 100kg – or consisting of multiple cartons – will be sent by ocean transport. The containers are designed and built for intermodal freight transport. That means the containers can be used across various transportation modes – from ship to rail to truck – without unloading and reloading the cargo from the container.
Benefits and disadvantages of ocean freight shipping
There are numerous benefits and disadvantages when shipping ocean freight. We want to be transparent about both, so you know whether this is the best option for you.
The benefits of ocean transportation include:
-
Cost-effective transport method compared to other modes (e.g. air freight) over long distances
-
Produces lower greenhouse gas emissions than other shipping modes (e.g. air freight)
The disadvantages of ocean transportation include:
-
Longer transit time than air freight, which means you have to wait longer for your goods to arrive
-
When shipping smaller amounts of goods, the price is not sustainable
BOOKING OPTIONS
We understand that every business has different logistics needs. That’s why we offer flexible, customizable booking options to help ensure your cargo is shipped efficiently and cost-effectively. Whether you’re a small business with occasional shipments or a large enterprise managing complex supply chains, we have a service that fits your needs:
FCL
Full Container Load (FCL)
describes sea shipping for cargo loads large enough to fill a 20’ or 40’ shipping container.
Unlike LCL – less than a container load – where shipments share container space with other goods, FCL shipments use the entire container. That means the container is loaded and sealed at the factory and unloaded when it reaches the destination warehouse.
LCL
Less-Than-Container Load (LCL) shipping is a cost-effective ocean freight method for smaller shipments (typically under 15–20 CBM) where cargo from multiple shippers is consolidated into one container.
Unlike FCL – full container load – LCL shipments share container space with other cargo. Your goods are consolidated with other shipments, allowing you to pay only for the space you use while still moving freight efficiently to its destination
REEFER
Refrigerated Container (Reefer)
describes temperature-controlled sea shipping used for perishable or sensitive cargo.
Reefer containers maintain a consistent temperature throughout transit, making them ideal for goods such as food, pharmaceuticals, and other products that require controlled conditions from origin to destination.
